Here we are all bundled up, running errands in the car. Winter has come early and with a vengeance this year. We have had record lows and tons of snow, ice, sleet, and every other kind of precipitation you have heard of and some you haven't-- like freezing fog. Don't ask because we don't know what it means either, but we had it!
We were highly blessed to get the garage behind our building this year. We got into it before the first snow fell. This is a picture of Alma dutifully shoveling the excess snow from the front of the garage entrance. This has probably saved us hours of labor. Seriously, no scraping, digging, defrosting, no leaving super early to get places on time, and no freezing our butts off!
This is a picture of what happens when you don't have a garage. And this is just what we got a picture of, some cars were so buried it was hard to tell there was a car there at all. Who knows how long it took that poor soul to dig out.
And this is what you do in Bridgeport (our neighborhood) when you don't have a garage, but are absolutely unwilling to let anyone else profit from your hard shoveling work. You put random household items on the street to save your spot. Here you see folding chairs, but we've seen tables, lumber, tires, barrels, milk crates, brooms, cones, and my personal favorite... a propane tank.
And here is Lake Michigan, also snow capped. Winter leaves nothing untouched here.
Chicago, the land of sodden salt-crusted boots and streets, shovels, ice, spinning cars, horrible traffic delays, and beautiful sparkling snow. Happy winter to all of you!

Looks like you definitely had a white Christmas--what an understatement that is. I wouldn't even know what to do with all that snow. If it makes you feel a little bit better it has been raining over here for about a week off and on and it rained on Christmas day as well. Hopefully next year you will not have to worry about having such a white Christmas.
What's this white stuff you call.. "snow?"
Let your count down begin! How many more months until no more snow?! The garage is definitely an amazing find in Chicago.
Hmm, i like you a lot less now that I know you have a garage... ;) Kidding, hope you had a great Christmas!
The raging winter must be Chicago's way of rejecting the news that you won't be here next year. It's just making sure that you "get the Chicago experience"!
